The Oceanside Chapel was opened in 1951 and in the following 72 years it has had many and various ministries; congregational worship, church school classes, weddings, funerals, and other programs. Currently it is open on Saturday evenings at 7 -8 PM for a “Vespers” style meeting which includes a little singing of hymns, a little praying of prayers, and then the reading and teaching from the Bible. It is a very simple gathering. We are looking to the future to see what direction God has planned for this quiet, little chapel.
One direction that the current Chaplains, Tim and Bonnie Mayne, envision is that of a spiritual retreat center. The founding pastor would come to the chapel from the Gresham area and stay in an upstairs room. We are in the process of remodeling that upper room and are looking to use it as a place for someone to stay, to study, to pray, to be renewed in body, heart, mind and soul.
We are beginning to develop a plan to raise funds (we are a 501-C3 charitable organization) to support those who need to come. We would like to help Firefighters, Police, Teachers and Pastors, as well as anyone who needs a retreat from the pressures of job and life.
God has a thousand ways, and we are open to them all!
Chaplain Tim Mayne
